Common Mistakes to Avoid with Google Analytics Chelsey Tattrie

If you own a small business and have a website you probably want to know how people are getting there (and if you’re not thinking about this, you probably should be). You likely also want to know how many people are visiting your site, how they got there, how much time they’re spending on it, and what they looked at. That’s a lot of data, am I right? 

Luckily, Google has helped us out here. If you haven’t heard about Google Analytics, it’s a digital analytics tool that lets you analyze data from your website for a deeper understanding of your customers journey (which is essential when it comes to marketing). 

Before you go ahead and set up Google Analytics on your site there are some common mistakes you’re going to want to avoid. The three common mistakes we see are:

1. Not filtering out internal session data.

Data from your employees is not helpful so you’ll need to filter this information out to ensure the data you’re receiving is as accurate as possible. 


2. Not tracking conversion rates.

3. Not setting up goals.

You’re a savvy entrepreneur and probably have goals related to your business. You can also set up goals in Google Analytics such as getting more people to click on a certain page or filling out a contact form. This tool will help you stay on track.
